Storytime for Night with books, fingerplays, and rhymes

Hello again!  This week's theme was "night."  We sang some songs and read books about sleeping and saying good night.  We also listened to some famous books!  Goodnight Moon is a classic and The House in the Night won the Caldecott Medal in 2009.

Good Morning Song
Good Morning to you, Good morning to you
We’re all in our places, with bright shiny faces
And this is the way to start our new day!

Good Night
The dark is dreaming,
The day is done.
Good night, good night to everyone.
Good night to the birds
And the fish in the sea.
Good night to the bears
And good night to me.
-Dennis Lee

Five Little Bats
Five little bats flew out one night (Hold up five fingers)
To have some fun in the bright moonlight. (Move your hand in a circle)
The first one said, “You can’t catch me!” (Move your thumb away to the side)
The second one said, “Look out for the tree!” (Shake your first finger in warning)
The third one said, “I love to swoop,” (Make your middle finger do a graceful dive)
The fourth one did a loop-the-loop. (Move your  ring finger in a circle)
The fifth one said, “Let’s catch some gnats!” (Wiggle your little finger)
Isn’t it fun being five little bats! (Wiggle all five fingers)

Good Night Irene
Foxes sleep in the forest
Lions sleep in their dens
Goats sleep on the mountainside
And Piggies sleep in pens
Good night, Irene, good night
Good night, Irene
Good night, Irene, good night, Irene
I’ll see you in my dreams
Whales sleep in the ocean
Zebras sleep on land
Hippos sleep by the river-side
And camels sleep on sand (chorus)
Coyote sleeps in the canyon
A birdie sleeps in a tree
And when it’s time for me to rest
My bed’s the place for me. (chorus)

Goodbye Song
Goodbye (x2) Have a nice day (x2)
Have a nice day today
