Lavender and Scarlet are two very different girls.  But birthday wishes take them to two very different worlds they aren't used to.  They switched bodies!!  To make things worse, there is a school play coming up and they are both in it.  The story ends up in an awesome ending.

Switched At Birthday was a really wonderful book about making enemies into friends and all because of birthday wishes.

Lion Vs. Rabbit by Alex Latimer

Book CoverLion is a bully. When the other animals post an online ad for someone to stand up to him, a rabbit is one of the applicants who answer their plea for help. In various contests of brain versus brawn , Rabbit outwits Lion every time. Finally, Lion concedes and promises not be a bully anymore. But how did Rabbit win? A clever twist at the end will surprise and delight everyone.
I really enjoy this book. The illustrations were great and the subtle references to pop culture were fantastic. For example, when Baboon is posting the want ad, there is a pop-up ad that says: Make money from the comfort of your own burrow. This book is great for ages 5 and up.

Fairly Fairy Tales by Esme Raji Codell and Elisa Chavarri

Book CoverThis book plays with the question: What if a modern, everyday objects were added to classic fairy tales. A bottle of shampoo and Red Riding Hood gives way to Grandma's Beauty Salon. The Three Little Pigs add solar panels to their home, The Giant from Jack and the Beanstalk owns a Italian Restaurant, and a few more interested twists on fairy tales. While the book isn't told in regular plot format, adults and children will enjoy the possibilities of making up their own stories. This book is great for ages three and up.

How I Spent My Summer Vacation by Mark Teague

Book CoverSome kids spend their summer singing songs around the campfire. Some kids spend their summer swimming at the beach. Some kids spend summer at their grandparents. But not Wallace Bleff! He tells his class about his adventures being kidnaped by cowboys, learning how to be a cattleman, and heroically saving the day during a cattle stampede.
I really like Teague's artwork in this book. He does a great job capturing subtle facial expressions on the characters. The story is told in rhyme, making a smooth reading. Great for ages 4 and up.

Book Jacket  Freesia Summers has THE LIFE.  She gets coffee, a gigantic wardrobe, and peacocks that sing her favorite songs to wake her up.  With no school (except cultural immersion class which is a free-for-all) she gets to shop all she wants with her best "friendly" Tellisa.  But lately things have been a little weird.  Sudden blackspots, students disappearing, and her reflection looking a bit . . .off, Fressia is getting a little worried.  But she decides to ignore those things for right now.  Unfortunately for her, these signs are more than random blips in the universe.  Freesia's perfect bubble is about to pop.

This book is awesome!  You've got to check it out.  The reason I liked this book is because in the beginning she is in the Agalinas and she is having "the life", and how she had a best friend in the real world who really wanted to be her friend and in the end she must decide to choose between friendship or popularity and spoilization.  I disliked this book because her parents make a poor decision to send Freesia away to a place where things may not seem as they appear.  I really, really liked this book and I hope you do too.
